Northern Counties Dance Sunday 16th January 2005 ADJUDICATORS DAYTIME MC’S
Hi Folks Sorry for the delay in writing the report and posting the list of entries, but we have only just returned back from holiday. The NCDTA hold their Inventive Dance Competition at the Temple Park Leisure Centre, the venue has ample parking which only costs 60p for the full day, which is quite cheap compared to some places. The hall that they use is situated downstairs in the leisure centre and it is a enormous room with plenty room to dance. Along the back of the hall was Mike and Andy from Fyna shoes, Stephen Martin, Fernlea Hotel and Javid’s dancewear. Doors at this event open early allowing competitors to get in first without having to queue, so everything is quite relaxed The day started off with the Latin section, with each section going straight through to the final 16 entries made up this section, 4 Cha Chas, 7 Rumbas, 2 Sambas, 1 Mambo, and 2 Jives. Once all the dances had been seen, all the competitors were called onto the floor for everyone to show their appreciation and we then had a general dance. The next round saw all the dances being recalled, then into the semi final 9 dances were recalled, followed by 7 into the final, with the eventual winner being Red Rock Jive by Steven and Helen. The Classical section was next, once again it would go straight through to the final, 15 entries made up this section 6 Saunters, 5 Tangos, 3 Blues, and 1 Swing this time the second round had 13 dances recalled, followed by 11 into the semi and 6 in the final with the winning dance being Neil and Lesley’s Saunter Cerutti. The Lunch break took place between the 1st and second round of the Classical Section, there are two reasonably priced snack bars in the Leisure Centre. In the Ballroom section there were 17 entries being made up of 6 Waltzes, 4 Tangos, 5 Foxtrots, 2 Quicksteps, 11 were recalled into the 2nd round followed by 9 into the semi final and 6 dances into the final with the winner being Buttermere Waltz by Michael and Angela. There was plenty of general dancing between the rounds ranging from the “older” modern sequence to the more recent winning dances. In my opinion the dances that won are very enjoyable and will probably last the course. The Saunter is not that difficult, but you have to have control on the slows, the Waltz, is good, having read the forum this week I see you are saying it is Jacks, meets Silver Wedding so if we know the steps we shouldn’t have any problems with it. With the Jive you may have to keep thinking what comes next, but it isn’t that difficult. There were a lot of other good dances entered and it was nice to see a couple of Sambas entered, it would be nice to see one win. Kevin Page and Valerie Laws dances seemed to get a good response from the public. Bridget is writing the next report from Weston -Super- Mare. So till the next Happy dancing Love Gwenda
