IMPERIAL SOCIETY OF TEACHERS OF DANCING INVENTIVE DANCE COMPETITION HERMITAGE LEISURE CENTRE, WHITWICK SUNDAY 20TH FEBRUARY 2005 ADJUDICATORS - MARGO ALDERMAN, JULIE EARNSHAW, DEREK TONKS, KAREN BYRON, JOAN FIELDS
Hi Folks Well here we are again waiting to see what this inventive dance competition brings us. The day started off at 10am, with Derek Tonks giving a lecture on syllabus (I cannot clarify on this as I was not present at this time), Samantha Heywood followed this a lecture on figures in the Foxtrot, particular the Glenroy Foxtrot’s Open Telemark & Acer Foxtrot’s reverse wave, this was Samantha’s first time at giving a lecture & I must say she did remarkably well, the later lecture was given by Lee Williams on Cha Cha Cha. After a short break the Inventive Competition began, this year saw a drop in the number of entries, so we were left with just 12 entries after Graham & Avril Watkins had to withdraw owing to Graham being ill (hope you soon feel better Graham) In the Classical section, we had 5 Tango’s, 3 Blues, 2 Saunters, 1 Mazurka & a Gavotte, all arrangements were of excellent standard, with the eventual winner being a Saunter by Robert & Louise Aldred which was named the San Francisco Saunter, a very nice saunter that I think will be very popular in the clubs. In the Latin section again we only had 12 entries being made up of 3 Rumbas, 2 Mambos, 3 Cha Cha chas, 1 Paso, 1 Bosa Nova & a Salsa. This section was the first to be danced with a semi final, followed by the final & the final there were, 3 Rumbas, 2 Cha cha cha’s, & a Mambo, it was announced that the marks were very close to get to an eventual winner, so they had to have a dance off between Stuart Perry’s Rumba & Beverley Murch Fowkes Rumba so it was a battle of the Rumba’s with the winning dance being Stuart Perry & Deborah Monks Rumba Athena taking the Latin title, it is quirky little Rumba by Stuart, in which he always puts a little twist this one having the Gent dancing off on the Right foot. In between the rounds we had plenty of general dancing to keep us going, all the dancers were led off either by the inventors or other fellow professionals. I would like to thank the ISTD for putting together another excellent Inventive Dance Competition, well folks there is not much more to say about the day, but I hope you all enjoy learning & dancing the new dances in the following weeks to come. Take Care Gwenda
